TEXAS STATE FUNKEY PIANO PROJECT

Texas State’s FunKey Project was founded in 2018 by Dr. Daria Rabotkina for the local community of San Marcos, TX. Piano lessons are open to students in grades K-12. All lessons take place on the Texas State University campus in the School of Music.

Students receive private training on a weekly basis during the Fall and Spring semesters. The schedule corresponds with the academic calendar at Texas State University. Each semester consists of ten, 30-minute lessons.

Lessons are scheduled individually with the assigned private teacher. Weekly lessons are taught by the members of keyboard faculty and piano majors at Texas State. The students are matched with a piano teacher by their level and personality.

The FunKey Project concludes each semester with an evaluation and a formal performance, where all families are welcome to celebrate music and their child’s efforts!

INTERNATIONAL PIANO FESTIVAL

Daria Rabotkina is the Associate Director of the Texas International Piano Festival. It was founded by Dr. Jason Kwak and Dr. Washington García in 2009 in San Marcos, TX. With the fierce dedication of the staff, community, the city of San Marcos, and with the help of Texas State University this festival continues to thrive and nourish the talents around the world.

The Performing Arts Center will host the 10th festival in June of 2019. The Performing Arts Center was inaugurated in spring 2014. Taking shape at the corner of University Drive and Moon Street, it houses a 400-seat theatre and a 300-seat recital hall, plus a grand lobby, rehearsal space, a scenery shop, staging areas and classrooms.

Participants of the Texas State International Piano Festival will perform in this modern recital hall and theatre, which will also host performances and master classes by guest artists.
